Repair cracking and torn automotive leather

Before then after photo of repair. In this video you will learn to fix small tears and cracks in automotive leather with Scratchwizard’s leather repair kit. On table. You will need our leather repair kit, which includes leather filler, a palate knife, patching material, color-matched leather dye, leather cleaner, a scuff pad and 600 grit sandpaper. Additionally, you’ll need soapy water, a lint free cloth, tweezers, and a heat gun. Chair on table. Simple green and towels. It’s a good idea to give the entire seat a good general cleaning. This will reveal the true color of the leather and allow the repair materials to form a stronger bond. Very fine steel wool can help separate years of dirt and oils from the leather. Leather cleaner and scuff pad. Now use the supplied leather cleaner and scuff pad to clean and scuff the areas you’ll be repairing. [title: RIP REPAIR] Seat with the big rip. Don’t attempt to repair large rips like these. Have this repaired by an upholstery shop. Seat with small rip (zoom in) But you can repair a rip of this size. Here’s how. Scissors and backing pad. Cut out a piece of the supplied patch material. It should be roughly the shape of the tear, but about a ¼” larger around the edges. Palette knife, filler, and tweezers Apply a fine layer of leather filler to the patch. Now insert the patch into the hole. A pair of tweezers can be helpful. Wait an hour for the patch to bond to the underside of the leather. [TITLE: CRACK REPAIR] Palettte knife, filler, and heat gun Apply fine layers of leather filler to the cracks, including the the tear you just repaired. You can use a heat gun on low setting to accelerate the drying of the filler. Check that the filler is try with your finger before proceeding to add another layer of filler. Once you have filled above all cracks, and your filler is dry. Sand the filler with 600 grit sandpaper. Sand in one direction, like this. You may have to swap in fresh sandpaper when it gets filled with leather filler. Spray can and heat gun Apply the color-matched dye in light, thin coats. A heat gun will on a low setting will help to accelerate drying times. Once the filler is covered with dye, apply at least 2-3 more coats of dye to ensure durability. When finished, avoid sitting in the chair for at least one hour.
